Ahmad Awad is the founder and director of the Phenix Center for Economic and Informatics Studies in Amman, Jordan. He has dedicated most of his professional life to promoting and defending human rights, with a particular focus on socio-economic rights, labor rights, social justice, and inclusive development.
He has supervised and contributed to numerous studies, research papers, policy briefs, and position papers addressing labor, social protection, economic reform, development, and the role of civil society in public policy and decision-making. At both the national and regional levels, he has worked to strengthen the participation of civil society organizations in shaping public debate and influencing policy processes on key economic and social issues.
In recent years, he has placed growing emphasis on research related to the future of work, emerging forms of employment, and the transformations reshaping labor markets as a result of digitalization, automation, and technological change. His work explores non-standard work arrangements, platform-based labor, and the policy responses needed to address digital transformation in labor markets in ways that promote decent work, protect workers’ rights, and reduce social vulnerability.
Ahmad Awad holds an MA in International Political Economy and is a member of a number of civil society networks and coalitions at the national, regional, and international levels. In 2018, he was honored by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights as an exceptional human rights defender on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
