Associate Professor of Computer Science and Chair of the Department, American University of Beirut (AUB); Academic Director, AUB’s Online Graduate Professional Diploma in AI and Data Science
Shady Elbassuoni is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the American University of Beirut (AUB), where he also serves as Chair of the Department. He is the Academic Director of AUB’s Online Graduate Professional Diploma in AI and Data Science. He received his PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Germany and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Qatar Computing Research Institute.
His research lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence and societal impact, with a focus on natural language processing (particularly Arabic NLP), AI for health, and AI ethics. His recent work explores the use of machine learning and computer vision to study food environments and public health, as well as issues of fairness, accountability, and transparency in AI systems.
